M8 The Lagoon Nebula

M8 (Lagoon Nebula or NGC 6523) is a mag 6.0 (visual) emission nebula and star-forming region in Sagittarius. It is estimated to be 4,100 light years from us. It was discovered by Guillarume Le Gentil in 1747.

Camera: Sbig STL-11000 Guiding: Internal
Exposure: HaRGB: Ha:13x10min R:13x7 min, G:13x6 min, B:15x8 min, Total=7 hours
Processing: Image acquisition using CCD Autopilot. Initial processing was done using Maxim DL with subsequent processing with Photoshop. The HA narrow band data was mixed with Red image to bring out detail in the nebula. The HA plus the other three colors was used to create a Luminance layer.
