The Orion Nebula M42 from BMV Observatories
Messier 42 (M42, NGC 1976) is a notable and often-observed diffuse emission and reflection nebula in the constellation of Orion. This image shows M42 with M43 to the immediate upper left, and to the far upper left, the Running Man Nebula (NGC 1977). M42 is a bright and prominent nebula with a magnitude of 4.0 - making it visible to the naked eye. It is located at a distance of about 1,344 light years.

Guiding: Orion ST80/SBIG ST402
Exposure: LRHaGB - Luminance: 23x5sec and 23x6min, R:19x6 min, G:16x4 min, B:19x7 min HA:17x6 min - Total 7.5 hrs
Processing: Image acquisition using CCD Autopilot. Initial processing was done using Maxim DL with subsequent processing with Photoshop. The short and long luminance were utilized to bring out detail in the brightest and dimmest sections of the nebula. The HA data was blended with the Red channel to enhance the nebula.
